Lynskey R450 Pro Series Titanium Road Frame

Brand:Lynskey

The 2014 R450 is the pro racer's dream bike. Light, super stiff, unmatched handling and power transfer. With the additions of the beautiful and highly effective tapered head tube, and PF30 bb, your view will be of the road course, NOT of other riders. View the photos, the frame specs, the geometry and finally the video to understand how each of these modifications and improvements can positively affect your racing experience.

The new R450 is made for the power rider who pushes huge watts and has a tendency to flex, over-stress and break everything. Acceleration, braking, climbing and descending…the super stiff monster does it all. Our level 4 road bike is designed for the rider that excels in crits and competitive road racing that wants stiffness and performance first and foremost.

We purchase certified, aerospace grade 6/4 titanium in thin sheets, then fold and seam weld the tubes closed to create the sharp edges you notice as unique traits of our R450. This aggressive tube shaping is one of the attributes contributing to the very stiff nature of this bike.

New features for 2014 include the tapered and integrated head tube, allowing the rider to choose a 1.5 to 1 1/8" tapered steerer carbon fork, once again, increasing the stiffness and stability up front. Add a radically over-sized PF30 bb and now the word stiff takes on a whole new meaning. These features, coupled with our race pace geometry, which allows for a more aggressive and powerful position, mean more podium visits are sure to follow. When the aerospace and defense industries need the best ratios of strength, stiffness and durability, they use “6/4 titanium”.

"I assume you're trying to decide between the 6/4 and 3/2 ti for your next rig. Having always ridden aluminum and carbon frames before buying my first Lynskey I really didn't think there was going to be that much difference in the 3/2 Helix vs 6/4 Level 4 frames but there is! I really do love both of my bikes for different reasons.

The quick lowdown of it is... when I'm racing in the mud im obviously on the pro+cross and actually won two out of the three days at Cincy3 on it this year which was awesome, but I also chose it as my touring bike this past summer while participating in RAGBRAI riding across the state of Iowa.

The 3/2.5 Procross with the Helix'd downtube is not in any way flexy (believe me I've ridden flexy bikes) but it does have a slightly more comfortable ride than the 6/4. I've also taken the Pro+Cross out on the local gear mashing Tuesday night world championship rides where there are a lot of sprints and a significant climb and this is where I really notice the difference. My Level 4 is snappier and go's like a rocket when I want it to accelerate to make an attack or bridge a gap. It also ascends better when climbing. It is a race bike for sure and is super stiff but it doesnt beat you up like aluminum frames do. It's perfect for crit racing or spirited riding but i've also chosen it as the bike for centuries where I'm trying to beat my previous times. I guess your decision will depend on what youre looking to use the new rig for." Dan Henry, local Chattanooga Pro Photographer and serious racing cyclist.
