Track Bikes, Fixed-Gear Bikes and Single Speed Bikes; A single-speed bicycle is a type of bicycle without derailleur gear other methods for varying the gear ratio of the bicycle.

The fixed-gear single-speed bike is the most basic type of bicycle. There is no freewheel to allow for coasting so your legs are always moving (you can't free-wheel).

A Track Bike is a bicycle that has been specifically for use on a velodrome or outdoor track. A track bike features a fixed gear (so no free-wheel) and doesn't have brakes. With them being used on the track you do not need to worry about vibration / road fatigue so they have narrow tyres inflated to high pressures to allow for maximum power transfer and minimum rolling resistance. Most track bikes use tubular tyres for this reason but clinchers are becoming more popular.

Single speed bikes and fixed-gear bicycles are very popular with bicycle messengers as they are very tough and reliable.

A popular option on a fixed or singlespeed bike is a Flip-flop, or double-sided hub. Usually one side has a track-type fixed gear on one side and a singlespeed freewheel on the other (if you are unsure a bike has this just drop us an email) giving you the option to run either with a simple flip of the wheel.
